Speaking

Nancy is an internationally recognized authority on human trafficking, most particularly the 21st Century slave trade focused on the oil-rich states of the Persian Gulf. She is in hot demand as a guest on radio -- more than 400 interviews across the country and around the world.

If your community group, school, or religious organization in the Tampa area would like a riveting and eye-opening program, let Nancy share with you some of what she has learned over more than 40 years of studying human trafficking.  She offers two choices:
Human Trafficking 101
This presentation covers the following topics:
  • Why are we still talking about slavery? Didn't we take care of this problem ages ago?
  • Who are the principal targets?
  • What are typical ways that traffickers use to lure and trap their victims?
  • What are some of the sneaky ways they get around Don't talk to strangers?
  • What happens to the victims once they've been trafficked?
  • What can parents do to help protect their children?
  • What can concerned citizens do to help combat this horrible crime?
Women and Slavery under Islamic Law
A lot of misinformation is being bandied about, and we would like to clear up some of the confusion. Nancy does not claim to be a world-renowned Islamic scholar, but she does know quite a bit about the subject. When she married an African, she acquired an enormous extended family -- and many of these family members are Muslim. "There are 20 million people in Cameroon," she says, "and sometimes I think I'm related to half of them."

Get one thing straight: this is not intended as an anti-Islam tirade, but simply as an effort to better understand each other.
This presentation covers the following topics:
  • What does the Koran, as well as authoritative extra-Koranic texts called Hadiths, really say about women?
  • Why is slavery considered perfectly legal under Shari'a?
  • Are there differences between Shia and Sunni on these topics?
  • In Islamic courts, are women allowed to testify?
  • Who is the only woman mentioned by name in the Koran?
Each presentation is approximately 30 minutes long.

There is no charge for the presentations. Some groups offer her donations, which she uses to raise awareness of how traffickers operate and what parents can do to help protect their children.
